3D skateboard art
I just stumbled across this article over at Wired about skateboards that have been treated with laser to get some really cool 3D art. The 3D art is made up out of 7 layers of plywood that is treated by a laser capable of cutting into the wood at a resolution of 1200 dots per inch. There are 7 different designs available, and each design will be printed on up to 50 boards. You can get hold of a board at Reed Space gallery in New York for $500.

[...] Looking at these laser etched skate decks makes me glad that I can’t even grind anything. These 3D relief skateboards are made for people like me who only risk scratching the bottom of their deck when they case the curb they’re trying to ollie onto and end up spread over the sidewalk like a bag of laundry while their board flies backwards into traffic, or that’s what I’m guessing. The skateboard art show debuted in Sydney, and the organizers are trying to line up a tour. Each design will be burned on up to 50 boards and sold at the Reed Space Gallery in New York for $500 each.
