Nikon discontinues analog cameras
I think this was kind of a shock for many of us – everybody saw this coming, but that it would happen so fast was quite a surprise.
“As a result of the new strategy Nikon will discontinue production of all lenses for large format cameras and enlarging lenses with sales of these products ceasing as soon as they run out of stock. This also applies to most of our film camera bodies, interchangeable manual focus lenses and related accessories. Although Nikon anticipates that the products will still be in retail distribution up to Summer 2006. ”

[...] Nikon discontinues analog cameras Everybody knew the day would come. Wonder who will be left to serve the 35mm users in 10 years? [...]

Who’ll tell if in 10 years 35 mm films will still be available at affordable prices. Not to mention developing. film isn’t a dogma, it’s a means. Old means disappear. New means replace them. That’s life as it was, as it is and as it will probably stay for many years to come. No different then my beautiful collection of useless top-quality analog satellite receivers just to mention another example.

It is really heartening to hear from Nikon ,who were into manufacturing analog cameras to stop producing these, since these actually are the cameras which would give a artistic bent and intuition to a real photographer, which the digital ones cant give, and because of this all and sundry who could afford a few dollars are taking pictures and the real photographer is being faded off.
