Samsung 31″ OLED prototype

Samsung 31

The good news is that the OLED technology outperforms LCDs and Plasmas with a contrast ratio of 1 000 000:1 and the bad news is that they are very expensive to produce and that is why we will not see them in a store anytime soon. The biggest OLED screen on the consumer market today is a 11″ Sony screen ($2 500) and we will probably have to wait until 2009 or 2010 to get a nice big OLED screen at home – and by then LCDs and Plasmas might have decreased the quality gap significantly.
